Sometimes there are trades in baseball that come out of absolute nowhere,

like the Yankees acquiring Devin Williams late last week,

and then there are the trades that you hear about for days,

and then it's official, and you're like, thank God it's finally over.

And that to a degree is the Yankees.

They've just acquired Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs.

It's a done deal.

Cody Petit goes back to Chicago, and Bellinger is here. He makes $27.5 million this year.

They will get $2.5 million from Chicago to bring that salary down at $25 million.

And then next year, Cody Bellinger has a player option of $25.5 million.

Or he could opt out.

And if he opts out, then the Yankees would pay a $5 million buyout.

The Cubs have included another $2.5 million to cover either that or the salary.

So not a lot of money coming back to the Yankees.

No.

But that's a good thing because it means they didn't give up as good of a prospect.

Right.

Or a prospect at all.

Or prospect at all. Or a prospect at all. I mean, Cody Petit's a 30-year-old swing guy.

So good move by Brian Cashman.
