So it made sense that executives at the Fox Network, which aired the soapy teen drama, would want to cash in on its success.

They decided to develop a spinoff show that would coincide with the network expanding its primetime programming from five to seven nights a week.

Fox approached 90210 creator Darren Starr and suggested he graduate the students from West Beverly Hills High after season two and send them to college in season three.
