My name is Melanie Yazzi.

My name is Melanie Yazzi.

I'm an assistant professor of American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

But this is really my home. I did my PhD here in American Studies. I studied under Dr. Jennifer Niz-Dinnitdale and I was on

faculty in the Native American Studies and the American Studies Department here at UNM so it feels like a home coming here.

You know, and Jennifer is a matriarch, you know, she's really, she's a commissioner of the Human Rights Commission for the now on nation and like an O.G. Indigenous, you know, native feminist, the first a net person to ever receive a PhD in history.

So we're surrounded today by legends.

And I get to sit up here with a legend.
