We live in a fast-paced, ever-moving world where everyone seems to be rushing in every direction.

And yet, in scripture, God desires to teach us that walking with him is our greatest and most important adventure.

The children of Israel, they loved meeting God in the tabernacle. Oh, that was wonderful.

But sometimes the Lord has to take us into the wilderness to really meet with God.

David loved meeting God in the palace, but sometimes the Lord has to take us to a cave running for our life to meet with us there.

Elijah loved meeting with the Lord when on the mountain the fire fell,

We love to meet God in a church building and a beautiful surrounding, but sometimes the Lord

will take you to the hard place, to the lonely place to meet you there. We've come today in our

great journeys of the Bible to a journey that John would never have chosen for himself. You remember

that John was the beloved disciple. He was the one who leaned on

Jesus' breast at supper. He was the disciple whom Jesus loved. That sounds wonderful, doesn't it?

And everybody would love to be that person. And yet, may I point out to you that God would take

John on a journey to a place that no one ever wanted to go. And it would be in that place

that the Lord would meet him. I'm referring, of course, to the Isle of Patmos. And we know that John

wrote several books of our New Testament. He wrote the gospel that bears his name, the gospel according to

John. He was a firsthand witness of the life and ministry of Christ while

the Lord Jesus was on earth. He wrote the three little letters that bear his name, first, second

and third John, and oh, they're powerful little letters. But finally, he wrote the revelation of

Jesus Christ. The last book of your New Testament, the final full revelation

of Christ in Scripture, was given to John.
