Music Hi there. Happy Friday. Welcome to meet the press now. I'm Ryan Nobles in Washington, as U.S. stocks are ending the day down slightly after new trade threats from President Trump and mixed signals from the administration about whether there's a trade deal to be made with the European Union.

Trump's bombastic tariff threats and the subsequent backing down on those threats have been

a hallmark of the first few months of his administration. Fears of a devastating global trade war

cooled down in recent weeks,

as the White House touted what it says are trade deals with China and the UK. But the president's

early morning social media posts reignited some concern. First, the EU. Mr. Trump posting this

morning, the European Union has been very difficult to deal with.

Our discussions with them are going nowhere. Therefore, I am recommending a straight 50% tariff on the

European Union starting on June 1st, 2025. He elaborated on that in the Oval Office this afternoon.
