We begin with the high-level,

high-stakes meeting today in Beijing between U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Chinese

President Xi Jinping. Secretary Blinkin's trip to China was the first by any U.S. Secretary of

State in five years, and it comes after months of escalating tensions between the two global

superpowers.

Following his 35-minute meeting with President Xi, Secretary Blinken characterized discussions

as candid and substantive, and yet there were no major breakthroughs.

Blinken said both sides agreed on the need to stabilize relations, but he acknowledged

the complicated geopolitical circumstances.

We have no illusions about the challenges of managing this relationship.

There are many issues on which we profoundly, even vehemently, disagree.
