where we're tracking the latest developments in the Israel-Hamoss war. The Israeli

military says they've expanded their ground offensive to all of Gaza

including the South where many Hamas fighters are believed

to now be hiding.

But the South is also where the civilian population of Gaza fled as Israel bombarded the north.

And today fighting around Con Yunus, the Gaza Strip's second largest city has intensified.

Israel's top military general says that fighting in the South will be just as fierce as it was in the North.

And with the U.S. urging Israel to be more precise with its targets, a senior U.S. military

official tells NBC News that he was taken aback by the

quote ferocity of Israel's renewed military campaign. Both the Vice

President and the Secretary of Defense voice criticism this weekend saying

that Israel must do more to protect civilians.

Israel has a right to defend itself, but we also must take into account that far too many Palestinian civilians, innocent people, have been killed and Israel must do more to protect innocent civilians.

The center of gravity is the civilian population and if you drive them into the arms of the enemy

you replace a tactical victory with a strategic defeat.
