0:59.3	FBI director Christopher Ray announcing that he will be stepping down.
1:03.5	Speaking at an FBI town hall this afternoon,
1:06.2	Ray told Bureau employees that after weeks of thought,
1:09.5	he has decided to resign at the end of the Biden
1:12.1	administration. He said in part, quote, my goal is to keep the focus on our mission, the indispensable
1:17.8	work you're doing on behalf of the American people every day. In my view, resigning is the best way
1:23.8	to avoid dragging the Bureau deeper into the fray while reinforcing the values and principles
1:29.1	that are so important to how we do our work. Ray's announcement comes two and a half weeks
1:34.6	after President-elect Trump announced he was picking Cash Patel to serve as FBI director,
1:39.2	despite Ray's 10-year term not expiring for more than two years. Ray was appointed by Mr. Trump in 2017 after then-President Trump fired James Comey as FBI director.
