Now I'm Kristen Welker, Congress is back from its recess, but the big action today wasn't

on Capitol Hill.

It was in Lower Manhattan in New York City today, House Republicans aggressively defending

former President Trump as he faces criminal charges while also escalating a standoff with

President Biden on a potentially catastrophic default on U.S. debt.

This morning Speaker McCarthy delivered remarks from the New York Stock Exchange warning

of the risks of rising debt and demanding the White House restart debt ceiling negotiations

or else.

Without exaggeration, American debt is a ticking time bomb that will detonate unless we take

serious, responsible action.

Yet, how is President Biden reacted to this issue?

He has done nothing.
