Tomorrow we celebrate the birthday of Anna Pauline Murray, Paulie Murray.

Today I will offer you the first part of a conversation I had with Dr. Gray Carr in a space called

narrative, K-N-A-R-R-A-T-I-V-E narrative with a K, the K is silent.

It's a space we created during the pandemic.

And I imagined it being a repository of history that might never be seen.

And I wanted to collect the history for 50 years from now, 100 years from now,

so we would always have a place where we would know about people.

So we created a section called You Should Know, which if you are a member of narrative,

I invite you to go kick the tires on that.

And among the discussions we had, one of them was on the great Pauline Mary, who I had just watched a documentary

on, and I did not realize how instrumental she was to the architecture of a lot of our current

civil rights laws, including Brown v. Board of Ed. It was her genius that created the argument.

She was also a mentor to the one and only Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

There may not be a Ruth Bader Ginsburg, if not for Pauly Murray.

So today we are going to spend some time learning about this great,

brilliant, genius mind from Baltimore, Maryland.
