God uses real people, people who have had great failures and have experienced the grace of Christ. Mark was such a person. He writes out of the overflow of the Savior he has come to know. We are beginning today a brand new phase of our journey. We're journeying with Jesus through the Gospel according to Mark.

And one of the great things about Mark's gospel record is that Mark is used of the Holy Spirit

to guide us in an understanding of Christ in a very unique way.

As a matter of fact, this little book, which is the shortest of the four gospel records

And I think part of the reason is because the man that was used of the Holy Spirit to pin these

words was a man who had had a tremendous experience

of grace in his own life. And as he writes about the Lord Jesus, he's writing as a man who has

seen something, who has heard something, who has known something, and we're reading out of the

overflow of his own experience with God. Really, that's true

of all these Bible writers, because these were people that had real knowledge of the Lord in a deeply

personal way. You remember when John Bunyan wrote his famous book Pilgrim's Progress.

In that story, a Christian is making his journey to the celestial

city, and at one juncture, he is taken to the house of the interpreter. And the interpreter there
