| 0:00.0 | Welcome to Laree Breaks It Down, where we dig deep to connect the dots on the issues that are shaping our world. |
| 0:18.8 | I'm Lurie Daniel Favors. I am an author, an activist, and I am the |
| 0:23.1 | host of the Lurie Daniel Favors show on Sirius XM. Now, on my show, which airs daily, Monday through |
| 0:29.6 | Friday, 10 a.m. Eastern on Sirius XM's Urban View Network, Channel 126, in that space, we refer to |
| 0:36.8 | ourselves as Black Talklandia. Now, Black Talklandia is |
| 0:40.9 | this phrase I coined to describe this space where we really do our best to embody the best in the Black |
| 0:47.7 | Talk radio tradition. And that means that we every day are having some really difficult and |
| 0:53.0 | challenging conversations about how our world got to be really messy when it comes to a few key areas. |
| 1:00.1 | Now, these areas are significant because some people like to refer to them as the culture wars. |
| 1:04.4 | I like to break that phrase down because the messiness that we sit in on the Lurie Daniel Favor show is an intersection of race, |

| 1:24.5 | by design because those are the conversations that are helping us learn how to be |
| 1:29.3 | better people who then are learning how to build better communities. And as a result, we are then |
| 1:34.7 | able to learn how to shape a better world. And for us, that is how talk empowers and becomes action. |
| 1:42.4 | Now, the challenge is manyfold in that space. And again, I love that daily show. |
| 1:47.2 | I absolutely adore it. But there's a couple of challenges that it presents for us, right? It's a two-hour |
| 1:52.2 | show. And the reality is, quite frankly, it's heavy. I mean, have you seen the news recently? |
| 1:59.6 | Like, it's kind of hard. It's kind of hard to not watch the news and walk away feeling sort of like some, you need to put on a shawl around your shoulders and just rock back and forth humming Negro spirituals. Like the news is very, very heavy. And so when you have a daily talk show that's dedicated to unpacking the news, it can weigh on you. It can weigh on you. And so because of that, |
| 2:19.2 | and because frankly, even if we weren't talking about the heaviness of the day, if we were talking |
| 2:23.3 | about rainbows, puppies, and skittles, it would still, you know, life be lifeing, as I like to say. |
| 2:28.5 | And we as individuals bring to our understanding of what's happening in the nation, our own |
