I'm Lurie Daniel Favors. I am an author, an activist, and I am the

host of the Lurie Daniel Favors show on Sirius XM. Now, on my show, which airs daily, Monday through

Friday, 10 a.m. Eastern on Sirius XM's Urban View Network, Channel 126, in that space, we refer to

ourselves as Black Talklandia. Now, Black Talklandia is

this phrase I coined to describe this space where we really do our best to embody the best in the Black

Talk radio tradition. And that means that we every day are having some really difficult and

challenging conversations about how our world got to be really messy when it comes to a few key areas.

Now, these areas are significant because some people like to refer to them as the culture wars.

I like to break that phrase down because the messiness that we sit in on the Lurie Daniel Favor show is an intersection of race,

gender, culture, identity, politics, and the law. Now, those conversations are really important.

And I tell my audience there every single day, those conversations matter and they're challenging

by design because those are the conversations that are helping us learn how to be

better people who then are learning how to build better communities. And as a result, we are then

able to learn how to shape a better world. And for us, that is how talk empowers and becomes action.

Now, the challenge is manyfold in that space. And again, I love that daily show.

I absolutely adore it. But there's a couple of challenges that it presents for us, right? It's a two-hour

show. And the reality is, quite frankly, it's heavy. I mean, have you seen the news recently?

Like, it's kind of hard. It's kind of hard to not watch the news and walk away feeling sort of like some, you need to put on a shawl around your shoulders and just rock back and forth humming Negro spirituals. Like the news is very, very heavy. And so when you have a daily talk show that's dedicated to unpacking the news, it can weigh on you. It can weigh on you. And so because of that,

and because frankly, even if we weren't talking about the heaviness of the day, if we were talking

about rainbows, puppies, and skittles, it would still, you know, life be lifeing, as I like to say.
