This is Dr. Casperson coming to you from my closet because all good podcasters start out in their closet, right?

So apparently the clothes are supposed to be very sound absorbing for my first podcast of length.

So what I wanted to do today is introduce myself and how I got confident enough to put a podcast out in the internet talking about sex and love

lives and intimacy. So to backtrack, I'm currently a urologist, a board-certified

urologist practicing in Washington State, and I do general urology, bread and butter

urology. I actually focus a lot in the women's

health and pelvic health department of urology. So I see a lot of incontinence, pelvic pain,

recurrent utis, prolapse, and have started doing sexual health for about the last two or three years.

And one story kind of, I think, illustrates well why I am here.

So I helped a woman through some bladder cancer, and she's a bladder cancer survivor.

And she is, we just became very close in carrying, carrying her through that. So she had been a

couple of years out and she came just for her yearly checkup with me. And she has a lovely marriage

and a wonderful husband. And she was crying in my office because she didn't want to be intimate with him.

And she felt like it was such a loss to their relationship.

And she felt sorry for herself and for him.

And I just remember watching her cry in my office and not knowing what to do at all,

having absolutely no resources for her whatsoever, besides just offering me as a presence

and a box of Kleenex. So a year goes by, she comes back, another year checkup. Here she is again

crying in my office about the exact same thing. Nothing's changed. She hasn't done anything. I hadn't learned anything.

And at that point, I'm like, there has to be something I can do for these women.

And the more I started paying attention to it, the more I realized how incredibly common sexless marriages, lack of passion, lack of desire, post menopause, symptoms, post-cancer treatment.
