Hello, everyone. Today on the show we have Detective Mike Weber. He's a seasoned law enforcement

professional with 40 years of experience,

specializing in crimes against children. Throughout his career, he has investigated over 50

medical child abuse cases, resulting in 13 convictions with three trials currently pending.

Detective Weber has written influential articles on medical child abuse for professional publications, including the FBI Law Enforcement

Bulletin. Mike received the 2016 NCMEC Texas Hero for Children Award. His latest work, The Mother Next Door, co-authored with our

previous guest, Andrea Dunlop, uncovers the complex maze of psychological, systemic, and cultural

issues that compound Munchausen by proxy and offer solutions for how we might find our way out.

Music is Detective Weber now. It is my honor, actually, to have Detective Mike Weber with us today.

It is a subject that is a difficult one to tackle. It's a difficult one to deal with

on a personal level with the people who are victimized by it. And it is one of these things where,

you know, I'm sure people have asked you, how do you do it? How do you handle? How do you handle these

cases? How do you, you know, compartmentalize and still do your work and still, you know, find a way to

just be very professional about it without being kind of in a puddle of emotion? And it is

something I get asked a lot just by being a therapist and doing interventions. But there has to be a way that people can keep going with this work because it is so vital, so important. And there are too few people like you who are addressing this. So I am so glad that you're doing this in general, but also I'm very glad that you're here with us today to talk about this work and what it means and how it is different in some significant ways.
