I don't flabbergast easily.

I mean, over the years, I've covered wars and impeachments and assassinations and murders

and all the ups and downs of the Trump presidency.

And you learn to sort of take it all in stride.

But I'm sitting there with the TV on, and all of a sudden, there's Melania Trump in the White House reading a speech about Jeffrey Epstein.

And like all the other journalists, my reaction was, what the hell is this? What is going on?

Why is she doing this? What is she trying to get out in front of? And we still don't have a lot of answers.

There's a lot of speculation. But here she was saying that

she was not going to put up with these smears, these alleged smears, as she put it, about

whatever relationship she had with Jeffrey Epstein, which she basically said was social,

that Donald and Jeffrey were friends,

and they traveled in the same circles,

but she was not one of his victims,

and she was sort of denying things.

I mean, I had never heard of any rumors about the two of them.

You know, what happened is that it kind of trickled back in the news

when the Justice Department, under pressure, released the Epstein files.
