It was the biggest lie ever told, except for the fact that it happened.

A group of youngsters are playing basketball with a white-haired middle-aged man in shorts.

They can't believe their luck because they are told he is the president of the United States.

He's come out to Los Angeles to play basketball with them.

Well, to play basketball with them and help secure California's 50 plus electoral votes.

Still, it's a great event, and it has to be the first time the president has played basketball with kids.

And if the message is promoting health, Secretary Ron Brown at Commerce is also there in shorts, dribbling,

and he's promoting his economic opportunity zones, part of Bill Clinton's 1993

economic proposal. If we can help kids and promote our legislation, well, so be it.

As Clinton takes a shot at the basket, it scores. He knows. But during the next

four years, if he doesn't want to be a one-termer, he's got to hit California's backboard as many

times as he can. I'd move to White House to California if I could. Reagan did it.

1996 would be three years away, and believe it or not, California in these times, could go either way.
