It is Tuesday, January 30th, 2024. Let's get into the mix.

Here are your Washington headlines of the day. Number one, Alejandro Mayorkas's impeachment begins today.

Number two, the latest on the border fight. And number three, we expect a tax vote this week.

Let's get into it a historic day,

depending on who you are, good or bad for Washington and for the country. The House Homeland

Security Committee will mark up a resolution to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas, the DHS Secretary,

the first time in nearly 150 years that the chamber is preparing to remove a member of

the president's cabinet.

Again, this basically illustrates two dynamics that are important in Joe Biden's Washington

or during Joe Biden's tenure.

The crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border and House Republicans unyielding appetite for political drama over

legislating. Here's the reality. Alejandro Mayorkas is going to survive this, substantively and

politically. He's not going to be removed by the Democratic Senate. He's not going to be, he might not even be

impeached by the House. We'll have to see. I'll get to that in a minute. But this all happens

as House Republicans have rejected out of hand the Senate's bipartisan border bill before it even
