And the Michael Tubs is the 30-year-old mayor of Stockton, California. He's inspiring, he's dynamic. He's got a story he really understands people

and people at their lowest

partly because

his family situation. His father has been locked up for a long, long time.

Your dad is a big part of the documentary and he's been incarcerated for how long a couple decades

20 I'm 30 so 24 years straight and then most of the four years before that suit.

Long time. I mean, like, what is, what is some of the pain that you feel with him being away?

Yeah, I think growing up, I was so angry.

I just had a chip on my shoulder,

I had an attitude. I think Lava just came from a sense of loss but not even

able to articulate a loss because you never had it, if that makes sense. Like knowing that everyone else has two parents,

I have one parent, I don't know what two parents is like,

but I know I should have that, I deserve that, right?

So some anger there I think also just

the messaging you get particularly as a young black kid about kind of criminality

in crime and what type of people are in prison.

So I've been very, very afraid that, because I would hear all these statistics,

like people whose dads are in jail are more likely to go to jail, more likely to drop out, more

likely to have kids as teenagers, etc.

So I remember being eight, nine years old and being terrified of that there was something

in my DNA, there was something in my blood

that made me more likely to be a criminal, right?
