Summary

The second reading for Mass today contains one of the most beautiful passages in the New Testament, St. Paul's hymn to the self-emptying love of Christ. We sinners cling to godliness; the true God does not, but rather gives himself away in humility and love. The cross of Jesus is thus the undoing of the sin of Eden.

0:58.4	Its name, of course, for Philip II of Macedon, who is the father of Alexander the Great.
1:04.6	Philippi is the first church that Paul found in Europe.
1:09.6	Of course, Christianity begins in Palestine, moves up through what we call Syria and Lebanon,
1:16.2	moves into Asia, Minor, and Turkey.
1:19.0	And Paul makes a journey across to the Greek mainland, and the first church he found is
1:24.7	this church at Philippi.
1:28.8	The letter he writes is extraordinary.
1:31.5	It's very clear that Paul loves this church.
