After three weeks of intense diplomacy between Britain and the EU, a tentative divorce settlement was

broken. Now all the parties involved claimed victory. Theresa May said it represented

substantial progress for Brexit. Supporters of leaving the EU like Michael Gove claimed their hard Brexit vision was still intact.

Ireland was delighted with its concessions over the border question, while the EU appears satisfied that it is won all of the key arguments especially about money.

For the first time this represented real substantial progress and paving the way towards a smooth exit.
