Hello and thanks for joining me. It's Monday the 31st of May and here's the latest on travel

and destinations from the Green List and the travel desk of the Independent. Today I'm in Gibraltar

at the airport. It's the tourism success of early summer. The public mood though seems to be

anti-travel according to a Comres poll for

the Independent. And I've got the weekend numbers at the start of half term. Thousands are

travelling, but it's still gloomy for the travel industry. Of course, this podcast is far from

gloomy and completely free, as is my weekly travel email.

I'm here at Gibraltar Airport, which has never seen a summer like it.

Just ahead of me, the Eastern Airways flight from Birmingham has just landed.

Right next to it on the apron is the British Airways arrival from Heathrow.

We've also got planes coming in from Southampton, from Luton, from Gatwick, and another one from

Heathrow, together holding about 1,000 passengers perhaps,

which is slightly more than the number of available tourist beds in Gibraltar.

The British Overseas Territory is, of course, one of really only two summer sun destinations

on the green list from which you need not quarantine when you come back.

The other one is Portugal, much larger and of course a favourite destination.

I'll bring you the numbers on that a little bit later on.

Gibraltar, though, is enjoying its most successful summer because of the green list

status. I arrived here 24 hours ago, and since then, well, it's all very relaxed. There's

mask wearing when you are not eating in the airport. On public transport, you wear a mask in shops. You wear a mask. But apart from that,

it feels pretty normal. That's because the Gibraltar government has vaccinated the entire
