Good Wednesday morning. I'm Anna Palmer and welcome to your Politico Playbook audio briefing.

And I'm Jake Sherman in recent days. President Trump and his administration have re-injected Barack Obama into the political fray.

Privately around town, some Republicans have wondered about the wisdom of doing that,

since polls consistently show that he's one of the most likable people in public life.

Eric Schmeltzer, progressive PR consultant, paid $4,500 out of his own pocket to commission a poll

looking at who would win a head-to-head contest, Trump or Obama.

PPP did the poll, and it showed Obama would beat Trump 54 to 43.

Of course, a poll like this is mostly a novelty since Obama can't run again, but it does

serve to highlight the quizzical nature of elevating the former president.

Burgess Everett and Andrew Desiderio have the latest on how Senate Republicans are following

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's embrace of President Donald Trump. In the coming days,

GOP senators plan to approve a series of subpoenas for documents and testimony that could hit

some of Trump's favorite targets, including Hunter Biden and dozens of Obama administration officials.

In California, Democrat Eric Swalwell, is planning his next move.

To use the national fundraising base he built to launch Remedy Pack, a committee that is aiming

to register new voters, expand the House Democratic majority, and win Senate seats.

What's behind the move? This is Swalwell's first big play since his short-lived presidential bid.

It's an attempt to use his network of national donors to get young Democrats to Washington,

and it's a sign of early jockeying for power in the post-Trump Washington.

The committee is launching with a dramatic direct-to-camera ad with a

coronavirus victim's daughter talking as it depicts Trump playing golf, partying, rallying, spending
