Good Monday morning. I'm Jake Sherman and welcome to your Politico Playbook Audio briefing.

And I'm Anna Palmer. Each time Congress has had to gavel into session during the pandemic,

it's been to squeeze a multi-trillion dollar relief package through Capitol Hill to get it to President Donald Trump's desk. This is the first

week that a big chunk of the House and the Senate will be back at once without a pressing

legislative matter at hand. There will be a significant amount of action to take in. In the House,

Speaker Nancy Pelosi is not officially coming back yet, and they are waiting for the release of a new coronavirus relief package.

Neither this bill nor anything resembling it will ever become law.

It is a Democratic wish list filled with all the party's favored policies.

It's a marker Pelosi's House is planning to lay down for two main reasons.

After a leadership-centric process the

last two times, House Democratic rank and file won their print on this round. Democrats are also

eager to make it known what their priorities are and to show they're the ones working on coronavirus

related issues and the Senate Republicans in their view are not. Of course, the bill will have state

and local money and an extension of unemployment insurance, snap, and direct payments.

Pelosi and other Democratic leaders have made those priorities clear.

We hear that a bill could be out very late tonight or tomorrow. The leadership is eager to vote this week, but if the bill is out later than Tuesday by noon or so, a vote will slip to next.

Since every corner of the

House Democratic caucus is vying for their priorities in this bill, it is subject to change,

even upon release. Officially, the leadership says they are still working and will release a bill

when there's consensus. Pelosi also plans to muscle through a rules change whenever the chamber officially returns to D.C.

The Senate's taking a different approach. The Republican leadership is looking to pump the brakes on the next bill while Mitch McConnell continues with other legislating.
