director of academic programs and assistant professor of government at Hillsdale in D.C.

Talking today about a piece that you co-wrote with Emily Weston Cannon,

who's a research coordinator at Hillsdale in D.C.

Over at the American Spectator, at Spectator.org, citizen suits are the usual means to combat

unusual justice, and this is concerning the recent Texas abortion law and lawsuits concerning

it that have made its way up to the U.S. Supreme Court at this point.

Arguments have been heard.

Let's set the parameters and let's make sure people know what we're talking about.

What is this Texas abortion law and what some are saying unusual enforcement means included here?

What are we arguing about?

So the Texas Heartbeat Act, or SB 8, was passed and put into law. And what it states is,

or the most unusual part of what it states, is that citizens are allowed to essentially

bring forward a citizen suit claiming that, or, you know, citing an abortionist who is procured an abortion, or help someone procure an abortion, rather, and bring it to court and actually sue in a civil suit and actually claim a bounty, like get a cash

reward for having done so. So it's sort of, you know, in the kind of the Venn diagram related
