Summary

What makes a relationship truly great? Does it have to be hard to be meaningful? In today’s video, I speak with Rob Dial, host of The Mindset Mentor podcast, to find answers.

We talk about the difference between the kind of “hard” that strengthens a relationship and the kind that drains it. From navigating challenges as a team to recognizing when effort becomes sacrifice in the wrong ways, this conversation will leave you with a fresh perspective on what it means to build a lasting, fulfilling connection. If you’ve ever wondered how to create a relationship where both people feel understood and safe, you can’t miss this!

Me and my wife Audrey, we were long distance for a good two years.

0:03.7

If we'd have told ourselves, you know, if it's the right thing, it should be easy.

0:08.1

We would have missed out on the love of our lives. One of the things you said earlier was when you're around somebody you can feel like, oh, you're more peaceful.

And I was over at Lewis's house,

0:38.3

Lewis's the other day. And a few years ago, we were together and he was on my podcast. And then

0:45.8

after we were talking about relationships, and I could tell, like, there's some chaos and stuff,

0:50.8

right? Like, he was just, he was saying it to me, but there was an underlying energy. And then

0:53.7

when I just saw him this pastime a couple days ago, I said, man, like, you feel different. Like your energy feels different. Not like there was anything wrong before. You weren't saying anything wrong, but like you just feel more peaceful in general. And he's like, yeah, man, I just feel more peaceful. Like there's not, you know, it's not like everything in business was great, but then there's

1:13.2

chaos and relationships.

1:15.0

And I think that's a really big point that's interesting for me of like, I always hear

1:21.7

that relationships have to be hard.

1:25.1

And we had this conversation, Lewis and I, and I'm curious,

1:29.1

um, your thoughts on it. Do you feel like a good relationship has to be hard? Because anytime I

1:36.2

hear someone's been together for 40, 50 years like, oh yeah, it was so hard. It was so much work.

1:40.6

Not saying that it wasn't, but it doesn't require effort. But do you think that a great

1:44.6

relationship has to be hard? Like that's a prerequisite. Firstly, it's so funny you say that about

1:49.2

Lewis because he, I actually, when I was talking about that idea of going home for Christmas

1:54.7

and, you know, people around you notice you're more peaceful. I was, had Lewis in my mind.

2:00.8

Really? Because he, we went to a mastermind last year

2:03.8

and there was just a very similar vibe of people just really admiring the peace that the energy that he

2:12.1

brought so he was so funny you had the same experience that's's immediately he popped in my head and he said peaceful.

2:18.3

Yeah, he's way more peaceful now.
