Summary

Welcome to this week’s episode with Lucy Jones. She is an investigative journalist, award-winning author and has just written a new book called Matrescence. Matresence is one of my favourite words and subjects ever. It describes the process of becoming a mother - the confusing discombobulating cocktail of emotions that happens when we transition from woman to mother. All the physical, emotional and spiritual changes. A bit like the transition from teenager to adult. Listen to hear about: -   What matresence means and its anthropological roots -   Our position as a mother in today’s society and how it’s geared to be against mothers -   Why we need more support in society and Lucy’s thoughts on how we can receive that If only all mothers knew this word, I think we would have found it so much easier to be kind to ourselves, knowing it’s meant to be a bumpy journey. - Special thanks to our sponsors Athletic Greens Visit https://athleticgreens.com/motherkind to get a FREE year supply of immune-supporting Vitamin D AND 5 free travel packs with your first purchase. Hey everyone and welcome to this episode of the Motherkind podcast with me, your host, Zoe Blaski.

I am so happy you are here with me this week because this episode is talking about one of my favourite subjects and words ever.

0:19.4

That word is matressence and the word describes the process of

0:25.2

becoming a mother and I'm so passionate about this word because it describes the discombobulating,

0:33.1

confusing, cocktail of emotions that happens when we become a mother. When we make that transition

0:40.8

from woman to mother, it describes what happens to us physically, emotionally, spiritually,

0:47.9

hormonally, all the changes that we go through. And it says that just like adolescence,

0:53.1

just like when we become an adult from a

0:55.9

teenager, it's meant to be a bumpy time, a time of questioning ourselves, questioning everything.

1:02.6

And the reason I'm so passionate about it is because had I known that word, had we known that

1:07.3

word when we became mothers, I think I would have found it so much easier to be

1:12.9

kind to myself. Had I known it was going to be a bumpy journey, it's meant to be a bumpy journey.

1:21.3

I would have been far better prepared and I would have been so much more gentler on myself.

1:26.7

I feel so passionately that we need

1:28.9

to get this word out to more and more mothers. So this week's episode is with Lucy Jones.

1:37.2

She is an investigative journalist and an award-winning author and she has just written a new

1:42.4

book called Matressens, which is what we talk

1:45.9

about on this episode. This episode is going to make you see your position as a mother in today's

1:50.9

society completely differently. I promise you, after listening to this, you are going to give

1:57.2

yourself a break and go easier on yourself. I hope you enjoy it. Here it is.

Help your family stay healthy this winter with Sambacol, the UK's number one supplement brand
