I'm Mick Garrus, and this is Postmortem.

It's a great time to be a horror fan.

There has never been such a wide diversity

of creative voices behind the camera.

Every year there are more and more filmmakers of very gender and ethnicity

drawing upon unique life experience and varied points of view.

But it's not always been that way.

As recently as the 1980s,

you could practically count on one hand

the successful female directors of horror films.

The genre has long been run by the white male point of view,

and I've actually been in meetings with studio executives

thankfully in the darkening past,

who actually said to me that women can't make horror movies.
