British playwright and filmmaker.

Indeed, he is one of only a small handful of people who have ever operated at the very

top of both the theater world and the film world simultaneously.

And at only 52, he's just getting started.

Martin, McDonough.

For the plays that McDonough has been writing since he was in his mid-20s, including 1996's

The Beauty Queen of Linnan and The Crepe of Inishman, 1997's The Lonesome West, 2001's

The Lieutenant of Inishmore, 2010's Abhanding in Spokane, and 2015's Hangmen, he has won

three Olivier Awards and been nominated for five Tony Awards.

Meanwhile, he has both ridden and directed five films, the 2004 Short Six Shooter and

four features, 2008's In Brewge, 2012's Seven Psychopaths, 2017's Three Billboards

Outside Ebbing Missouri, and most recently, 2022's The Batchies of Inisharan, which tells

the story of two men on an island off the coast of Ireland, played by Colin Farrell and

Brendan Gleason, whose close friendship is suddenly ended by one of them.

McDonough's films have brought him four Golden Globe Awards, four BAFTA Awards, and one

Academy Award, Best Live Action Short for Six Shooter, and he has also received six other

Oscar nominations, Best Original Screenplay for In Brewge, Three Billboards and Batchies,

Best Picture for Three Billboards and Batchies, and Best Director for Batchies.

All three of McDonough's Noms for Batchies, plus six others for the film, are still pending.
