1:16.0 | What's up, guys? My name is Seth Studley. I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist, and we are super excited to bring you Shayna James, host of the Man Alive podcast. |
1:23.0 | She came on. It's really interesting because she's been coaching men for 15 years, and she's a woman. But she brings out stuff in men that are super amazing. |
1:31.0 | And one of her TEDx talks, what 1000 men's tears reveal about the crisis between men and women is freaking amazing. You guys are going to love this show. You're going to get value from it, so stay tuned. |
1:42.0 | Enjoy! |
1:43.0 | It's lovely to have you on the show, and we're just so awesome to have a great conversation. So tell us a little bit about yourself, and we'll dive right on in. |
1:59.0 | Okay, we're going to start. Well, I work a lot with men, and I have for the past 20 years or so. And everybody is always like, why do you do that as a woman? |
2:10.0 | And, you know, I started out thinking that I was going to coach and counsel women, and then I had a chance to be part of this workshop where I, as a woman, was giving honest and loving feedback to men. |
2:23.0 | And it totally rocked my world. And I really got to see behind the facade and behind that curtain, you know, of like, or the mask of men have got it together and whatever my ideas were about how men might have objectified me or any of that. |
2:38.0 | And I just got to go deeper than that and see men's hearts and somehow felt called to keep, you know, diving into this work with men. So it feels exciting to me. I feel like in some ways I get to love men for a living. |
2:52.0 | And in other ways, especially in the heterosexual world, I'm loving women through helping men. Right. Right. I love that. |
3:00.0 | That is awesome. And I can tell you one thing from a man having been, well, so I'm a licensed measure for the therapist and have been for 15 years. And it has always been predominantly female, heavy, I guess. |
3:15.0 | I was always outnumbered, right. And I was never intimidated by that or whatever. I never thought, oh, this is weird. What am I doing here? Kind of thing. And it really feels awesome when I could connect with other women, not in a romantic way, of course, but other women. |
3:32.0 | And they, it felt like they understood what I was saying as a man. So I love, I love that you do that. And I watch your TED talk, by the way, awesome TEDx speaker in Valipresio, which was rad. |
3:45.0 | And I, I resonated with that because the things that you say, and of course you know this, but our listeners may not, the things that you say and the way that you help men navigate through these emotions that all men have, we're just humans, right. |
