This is CBSI on the World. I'm John Batchel with my colleague Elizabeth Peake.

Both of us are veterans of Manhattan for decades. And right now we're watching a mayoral race

that is unpredictable and at the same time revelatory, at least in terms of the party that

is dominated New York for as long as I can

remember, the Democratic Party.

From the days of Tammany Hall till right now, the Democrats control much of the opinion-making

and the vote in Manhattan and the boroughs.

And the mayoral race puts up Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat who has been twice elected governor of the state of New York and long experience in state politics and national politics, never at the municipal level, running against a young man named Mamadani, 33 years old without noticeable civic experience.

He's on the city council.

And there are other candidates, including the mayor, Mr. Adams,

a former police captain who is running as an independent.

And Mr. Lander, I believe, is his name, running for the arrested vote.

It's very confusing.

Liz, right now, there is a poll taken most recently that says that it's a toss-up between

Mamdani and Cuomo.

They are both progressive Democrats.

However, there's a profound difference between them.

Manhattan is now in a mood to go where, Liz.

Which way?

Well, I think there's a difference between them.

One is a grown-up and one is not.
