Summary

Everyone in Mark's trial narrative bears false witness about who Jesus is—the religious leaders, the crowds, and even Peter who denies knowing him three times. But Jesus himself bears true witness, revealing that he is the merciful God who dies for those who betray him. In this podcast episode, David explores how this passage completes the story Scripture has been telling since Eden about God's relentless pursuit of his unfaithful people.

Well, hey everyone, welcome to the Spoken Gospel Podcast.

My name is David Bowden, and I'm sharing with you our fourth and final installment of a short little series we've been doing,

0:09.0

where I've gotten to share some of the sermons that I've preached at our local church on the Gospel of Mark.

0:15.0

We got great feedback last time we did this, so we wanted to share a few more.

0:18.0

We started off by looking at some of the first sermons I preached on the Gospel of Mark

0:23.0

in chapters 1 and 2 and 3 and then 5.

0:26.2

But now I want to jump to the end of that series where I got to preach on Jesus' trial

And I wanted to share this one because I felt like it captured the heart of Jesus so

0:48.4

He knew that everyone would deny him.

0:50.3

He knew that Peter, one of his closest disciples, would betray him and hand him over and say he

wanted nothing to do with him. And yet, even though he knew this, Jesus willfully, joyfully, lovingly went to

trial on their behalf. He endured everything, even though he knew he would be betrayed. And that just

1:09.7

spoke to my heart so deeply

1:11.9

because Jesus is so willing to endure what he endures, even though he knows everything that I have

1:20.1

done, am doing and will do to betray him. And his mercy and grace and long suffering just shine through in this passage.

1:29.1

So I'm so excited to share with you this final sermon in this series for us on Jesus' trial and Peter's denial.

1:38.4

I am very glad to have a passage today that is not one of the most hotly debated passages in the Bible.

1:46.6

If you've, yeah.

1:49.6

However, I think this passage is almost heavier, but in like the best way possible,

1:56.9

I have a very firm and, dare I say, zealous agenda for us today. And it is to rightly testify to
