Well, welcome back, everyone, to the Spoken Gospel podcast. I'm David Bowden, and this is our third and final installment of a short series we're doing to see how you like it, of sharing some sermons that I've been preaching through the book of Mark at my local church.

Let us know what you've thought of this series so far. You can email us at info atspokengospon.com. We want to know if you want to hear more of these.

I've really enjoyed being able to share them with you,

0:23.7

and I hope they've been a blessing.

Today we're going to be looking at Mark 11, verses 12 to 25,

0:30.2

and three scenes unfold that are all very famous,

0:34.0

and I think largely misunderstood.

It is the cursing of the fig tree, the cleansing of the temple, and the teaching at the fig tree where Jesus says that you can throw this mountain into the sea with your faith and prayers. What is going on there? It can be a confusing passage, but I'm very excited to show how all of it

0:56.1

is just landing the story of scripture that's begun on page one of the Bible. And so we're

1:02.2

going to dive into all three of these passages, all three of these stories, and see how they

1:07.0

connect to scripture. And again, as I've shared, we're doing this for a really specific purpose. It's because what Seth and I have done in here for years have been to

1:16.8

apply this gospel-centered hermeneutic of scripture, this looking at the broad stroke of

1:23.4

scripture, reading the Bible literarily, and trying to understand what it's saying. And we want to

1:28.8

show what that looks like on a normal Sunday morning when you're just opening up a few passages,

1:33.1

a few verses of scripture and teaching out of it. And I think it's cool to see how the rubber

1:40.1

of this principle meets the road of a normal Sunday morning gathering. So I hope this sermon

1:46.2

encourages you and illuminates this really fascinating passage of scripture in Mark. Again,

1:52.8

let us know what you've thought of this sermon series so far if you want to hear more. But for

1:57.1

now, enjoy this sermon on the cursing of the fig tree let's get into it all right they gave me

2:04.5

the cursing of the fig tree passage good morning my name's david bowden i'm a bridgeway member and on the

teaching team and i love this passage so i'm totally. I totally wanted this passage. I've thought about
