Hey, everybody, it's Glenn Thrush with Politico's Off Message podcast, and we're getting in the red

zone of this campaign.

We have about three weeks to go.

Anyway, I'm going to cut right to the chase.

Our guest this week is Mark Kelly, the former

astronaut and husband to Gabby Giffords, who has now sort of taken on the gun crusade that

resulted from the near assassination of his wife in 2010. The reason I really like Mark Kelly, there's a lot of reasons I like Mark

Kelly. First of all, he's somebody who's unabashedly in an almost 1960s and 70s way,

committed to public service. And I really just think there hasn't been enough of that

in this particular campaign, certainly not enough discussion of it. And there's something else I really like about the guy.

There's a part of our conversation where we talk about him dealing with protesters,

sort of NRA folks and people who think that he's trying to repeal the Second Amendment.

And he talks about walking across the street and talking to the protesters

and or looking out in a crowd and seeing the person he thinks is most opposed to him and how he

sort of singles those people out. And I have to say two things about that. The first is,

what an incredible thing to do when your wife has been shot in the political

arena?

Literally shot, nearly killed in the political arena.

You're taking an enormous amount of personal risk, particularly with how crazy things have

been lately.

And then the other thing that really struck me is that's what I like to do.

It really, really is.
