how you doing? Hey, happy New Year, Mark. Hey, you too. Before we get to everything else,

today is Richard Nixon's birthday. You worked with him the last few years of his life. He wrote books

about him. You knew him as well as anybody. Would you agree, one of the most fascinating figures

in American history? Oh, absolutely. And thank you for asking me about him. Richard Nixon is

one of my favorite topics ever, Mark. And yes, today would have been his 111th birthday. He was born

back in 1913.

And I was so blessed to have worked for him during the last couple of years of his life.

In the mid-1990s, it was my very first job out of college.

I had written him a letter.

And to my surprise and delight, he wrote back to me.

And it ended up being a couple of years with him

serving as a foreign policy assistant and traveling around the world with him meeting all

of the heads of state with whom he met working with him on his last couple of books and

his speeches not that he needed much help at all he He was so brilliant. And, you know, even his
