I have two interviews with two separate guests because too much has happened over the past few weeks,

and there are too many smart people to analyze it all.

First up is Marisol Lebronn, a professor of American studies at Dickinson College.

She is currently working on her first book, Policing Life and Death, Race, Violence, and Resistance in Puerto Rico, which examines the growth of punitive governance in contemporary Puerto Rico.

Marisol is also one of the founders of the Puerto Rico syllabus, a digital project about the Puerto Rican debt crisis.

We're going to talk about how Hurricane Maria was, for Puerto Rico, a doubly man-made disaster.

Not only has climate change supercharged storms, but the long history of U.S. colonialism and, more recently, the brutal imposition

of austerity, has also made those storms more dangerous to Puerto Rico because Puerto Rico's

infrastructure has been decimated. Then I've got Brandy Jensen, who you might know from the

internet.

She lives in Brooklyn with her dog and tweets too much, but the baffler pays her to do so.

We're going to discuss the past week of Republican grotesquery,

including Trump's attack on black NFL players and right-wing Christian supremacist Roy Moore's Senate primary victory in Alabama. Oh, I almost forgot. We have at least 114 new supporters on Patreon.com this month.
