Hey, this is the moment I'm Brian Cobham and my guest is Margaret Price, a great songwriter

and a great singer, recording artists who you probably know if you listen to this podcast,

but if you don't, you need to know her work.

She's made three excellent albums, Midwest Farmers Daughter, All-American Made, and that's

how rumors get started, which is the newest album, and I was bikeriding a lot this summer

and the day that record came out, it was the thing that I bike to, and mostly I was biking

at Tom Petty and Sturgial sometimes, and that album just fit right in there, even though

I know that wasn't the one you made for Petty, but still that album, it just kicks ass, great,

great work, Marga.

We were definitely pulling more from his songwriting style on that record than the second one,

even though I threw his name in that second one, and it came out on his birthday shortly

after he passed, but I appreciate the nod because I am a huge heartbreaker stand and we were

definitely borrowing from a few of his tricks.

Well, it's a weird thing, the effect that a certain kind of music has, and it seems to me

you have such a reverence and love and also a need for the kind of salvation through rock

and roll that Bruce and Petty and Neil Young either talked about or lived, and I do too,

and where do you think, how did that first happen for you?

Because I've found Neil Young in particular and Tom are the things I've used the most

to get me through this time, and I do see a real connection in what you do and what they

do.

Yeah, I love getting compared to guys like that, because most of the time it's like, oh,

you're like Dolly or what, I mean, who wouldn't want to be compared to Dolly?
