How you doing, Dasha? Great to see you. Good to see you, my friend. I want to talk about the state of the Republican Party,

which is a theme we do touch on on this podcast from time to time, but feels very pressing.

I was going to say, Breaking News, Banner. I hear you. But it is breaking news, or at least it was late last night, that the

Dems have won are really interesting. Only a state level election. So let's not get too carried

away here. But the headline just writes itself, doesn't it? The headline writes itself, and indeed

I have written that headline in the Playbook Newsletter this morning, because how could you not?

I did not write that this was a special election for Florida State House District 87, although that's what it actually was. It's the district

that includes Trump's home of Mar-a-Lago and the Dems won it last night in a state election,

overturning a district that Trump himself, unsurprisingly, won big time in 2024. Were your eyebrows raised,

Dasha, when you saw this? Yes. First of all, my eyebrows were raised in wondering where

Trump's eyebrows were because I can only imagine he's not happy to hear this. And I mean,

I was looking back at the history and the last election, the Republican, won by like double digits, like almost 20 points or something like that over the Democrats.

So this is a pretty significant win for Democrats, not just because of the symbolism of the location, but also the way that they might be able to read this as a potential bellwether and good news for what works, right?

I mean, this is a candidate that focused, again, relentlessly on affordability, on taxes, on the stuff that voters keep telling us they want to hear their candidates, their politicians, their leaders talk about.
