Hi everyone, this is John Mandrola from the Heart.org Medscape Cardiology and this is this week in

Cardiology for March 27th, 2020.

This week of course the topics surround the coronavirus crisis.

When I recorded last week there were 12,000 positive cases in the United States.

This morning when I looked, there were 85,000 new cases, including more than 1,200 deaths.

Now, some of that is due to testing, but the massive increase in hospitalizations and deaths

do not lie.

Notable about the U. the US situation is its regional nature. We have

hot spots, New York, New Jersey primarily, but increasingly worrisome are cities

like Detroit in Chicago and New Orleans. The Midwest, where I am, is

beginning to see cases. Indiana has more than Kentucky, but most of the hospitals

here have patients in the hospital that are positive. We have very ill patients in the ICU as well as infected health care workers.

We hope, and I emphasize hope, that the early actions of many Midwestern governors to shut down economic activity,

plus the lack of public transit in these areas,
