Welcome back to Man Hunting in which waypoint and friends are working through the tomography

of Michael Mann and examining his themes of labor, craft, capital, and dudes rocking.

Today, as usual, we welcome Next Landers Alex Navarro and Philadelphia's own Diel

Aesena back to the Mean Streets of Miami and the deep blue waters of the Caribbean in

the past 2006 film adaptation of his breakthrough TV hit.

So gang, Miami Vice is the only Michael Mann movie I've ever stopped watching part

of the way through, which I've seen worse ones all the way through.

But this one for whatever reason, I bailed on it.

I think it's because back in its original DVD release, I caught the opening of it either

it was either on desk or cable and I actually think it might have been cable because you

remember the movie looking really, really bad, which I suspect with cable compression on

top of the digital look that we're going to talk about that this film has.

But even beyond that, I bailed on it before the central undercover operation that occupies

most of the film's runtime before they even got underway.

I simply, I could not follow what was happening.

I could not really even process Colin Farrell's or Jamie Foxx's performances as that of

Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs as they mostly seemed to brood or speak in jargon and then

we go off to some other baffling location.

It was neither the thrilling follow up to collateral I'd expected and was kind of primed for nor

was it in any way like attuned to the appeal of the original show, which you know, at the

time I remember loving quite a bit.
