Hello, hi and welcome to another episode of the Emmer Gunn show I am your host Emma Gunn Awardner and in this

0:15.7

episode I'm honestly delighted to say that I'm talking to Mandy Saligari. Mandy is someone I have wanted to speak to on tape as well as off to be fair for such a long time and I'm going to tell you for why.

0:30.0

Long time listeners will know that here at the Emma Gunn show we're not scared of emotions.

0:35.0

This is a safe place for thoughts, feelings and getting it all out there, being vulnerable in order to grow.

0:41.0

But that does not mean that this podcast is a time-wasting exercise in naval gazing.

0:45.2

Or at least that's certainly not to my intention. I saw Mandy on a television show in the UK called

0:50.9

celebrities in therapy and just really liked the way she spoke about mental health, made observations and cut to the chase.

0:57.0

We can say a lot about what we're thinking and feeling,

1:00.0

but she has the ability to just go,

1:02.0

well this is what that means or this is what this

1:05.1

was what this tells me she's an expert in her field and you can really really tell

1:10.0

I suppose from my perspective I have definitely noticed instances where I have seen people identify as their mental health diagnosis so for example anxious anxious or depressed, for example.

1:23.7

And I don't mean this to sound harsh, it's just my observation, but those diagnoses actually

1:28.6

afford you a lifeline to take action.

1:31.2

Once you know what you're dealing with you can make progress, right? So the purpose of any

1:36.8

episode of this podcast, hopefully, be it entertainment or whatever, but when we cover things like

1:42.4

mental health, really is as a way of there's

1:45.7

action that can be taken to get you out of the situation you're in rather than embedding

1:50.3

within it.

1:51.3

So yes, Mandy's style and her vibe just really resonated with me and I wanted to get her on the show to talk about therapy, why it's okay to need it, to want it, and what you can expect from taking that step and speaking to someone. I have spoken to quite a few people

2:04.4

on DM and email who have a fear of opening up, a fear of even admitting they might need this resource.

2:10.4

And so hopefully what this conversation with Mandy will do is give a clearer idea of what it's all about.
