Good morning, everyone. I'm Kate Baldwin. It's Monday, April 20th. Here are the five things you need to know to start your day.

Number one, the seized ship. It hasn't happened since the war with Iran began, and it may indicate a new chapter in this conflict is about to unfold.

The U.S. military has now carried out its first seizure of an Iranian-flagged cargo ship headed to the Strait of Hormuz. Central Command posted video

overnight of Marines repelling onto that ship called the Tuska. Sentcom says it was trying to get

past the U.S. naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman, and it failed to heed warnings to stop for six hours. The end result

being a U.S. warship fired several rounds into the engine room disabling the ship. Iran this

morning is now vowing to retaliate. The country's foreign minister also says that they

have no plans to return to the negotiating table that had been somewhat

planned for this week. The two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran expires

tomorrow. Adding to the new Hormuz chaos, Tehran has once again shut shipping down

just after it announced that it was opening the Strait of Hormuz completely

back up, sending oil prices back up as well,

and leaving the US Energy Secretary to say Sunday that U.S. gas prices may remain at $3 a gallon or more until next year.

That could happen later this year, that might not happen until next year. But prices have likely peaked and they'll start going down.

Certainly with a resolution of this conflict, you'll see prices go down. I think we've managed it fantastically, though.

But saying they could remain at $3 plus until next year, that prediction, though, contradicts that of the Treasury Secretary.

Scott Besson had said he expects relief to be coming this summer, not next year.

Number two, the Louisiana tragedy. A community in Shreveport is in a state of shock today after eight children were killed.

Seven of them, siblings, this horrible situation, now the deadliest mass shooting

in the United States since 2024. And the details are even worse than the heartbreaking

scope of the tragedy. It happened across multiple locations early yesterday morning. Police

say the gunman was Shamar Elkins, a 31-year-old man who was the father of seven of the eight children killed.
