A man has been arrested in charge with murder in the shooting death of legendary Bay Area football coach John Beam.

Beam was shot around noon Thursday on the Laney College campus in Oakland, California.

Officers found him shot in the head at the athletics field house.

He was treated at the hospital but died of his injuries Friday.

He was 66 years old.

Beam was the subject of the 2020 Netflix documentary,

Last Chance You, about the Laney football program,

which has produced more than 20 NFL players,

including seven who played in the Super Bowl.

Police use surveillance footage to track down 27-year-old Cedric Irving.

Police sources told the San Francisco Chronicle Irving played football in high school and had a

fixation on Beam, allegedly confessing to killing the coach because he believed Beam used black magic on him and others.

The assistant chief of the Oakland Police Department says it was a very targeted incident.
