Tucked away in the small town of Malvern, Iowa, stands a building with a history as unsettling as the activity now reported inside its walls. Malvern Manor began life in the late 1800s as a hotel serving railroad travelers passing through town. But as the railroad faded and the building changed hands, its purpose changed with it.
Eventually converted into a convalescent home, the manor housed patients struggling with addiction, mental illness, and other conditions many institutions of the era were unequipped—or unwilling—to properly treat. Stories of neglect, mistreatment, and suffering followed the building for decades before it was finally abandoned, its contents left sitting untouched behind locked doors.
Today, Malvern Manor has become one of Iowa’s most talked-about paranormal locations, drawing investigators and skeptics from across the country. Owner Josh Heard shares the history, the hauntings, and the chilling encounters that continue to unfold inside the manor’s empty halls.
