Summary

The Lakers aren't just on a two-game winning streak. (It's depressing that a pair of consecutive wins qualifies as a shift, but that's the world we currently live in.) They're also getting closer to some interesting roster decisions regarding the futures of Avery Bradley, Stanley Johnson, Darren Collison and perhaps even someone like DeAndre Jordan along the roster fringes. That in large part played a role in the trading of Rajon Rondo, which became official on Monday. Rondo went to Cleveland in a three-way deal with the Knicks that set up the former Laker champ with more playing time on a surprisingly good team (indicative of the respect and affection he garnered with the purple and gold brass, and in particular, Frank Vogel). It also saved L.A. about $4M in luxury tax money, which could create flexibility down the road. In any event, the team will soon have to decide about Johnson and Collison's next deals (their 10-day contracts have expired) and whether to guarantee Bradley's contract before January 7th. Collison doesn't appear likely to be retained, but the Kamenetzkys would be shocked if Johnson and Bradley didn't remain on the team until season's end. Both have earned their spots (and in Bradley's case, mea culpas from the doubting K Bros), and are also cool stories in a season that's been largely depressing. It's always fun when easy to root for players succeed. Speaking of which, Malik Monk is another likable dude who's been absolutely killing it of late, and throughout the season in general. During Monday's practice, Monk shared some thoughts about this experience of betting on himself with the Lakers. Plus, he reveals the deep influence Nick Young played in his life! HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: The Lakers have officially traded Rondo, which has some (positive) financial ramifications for the Lakers. SEGMENT 2: The futures of Bradley and Johnson. SEGMENT 3: Thoughts on Monk's season (and right arm). Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. 1:42.4

Really openly kind of talked about, you know, this process and what he's been going through this year and ways that I thought were pretty interesting.

1:49.4

So the ways he was influenced by none other than Nick Young. Yes, we're of today's children. Nick Young.

1:57.4

That was just like the Wu Tang clan. Nick Young is for the children exactly. And we'll also try to get to some stuff Frank Vogel said about continuity and the rotation and some of the challenges around that that the Lakers are facing.

2:12.4

But first, Andy, let's talk about some housekeeping because the Lakers are doing a lot of stuff right now.

2:17.4

We're not even at the trade deadline. The Rajan Rondo deal was finalized on Monday made official. He is sent to Cleveland.

2:25.4

Denzel Valentine as expected was part of that trade, but as it turns out, they routed Valentine to New York.

2:34.4

And the Lakers received the draft lot rights to someone named Louis, something or other. It doesn't matter.

2:42.4

No, it really does not matter. It's better to just not butcher his last name when ultimately he is not going to play any role with the Lakers whatsoever.

2:51.4

Through the Lakers or anyone other than perhaps one day, being traded again. Right. He writes deal like this. He is an accounting footnote at this point.

3:00.4

Yes, he was a, you know, the 224 second round pick of the Pacers who's been traded twice for reasons like this.
