The text for this morning sermon is in Genesis 1 verses 26 through 28.

I invite you to follow along as I read.

Then God said, let us make man in our image after our likeness, and let them have dominion over the

fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over the cattle and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.

So God created man in his own image.

In the image of God, he created him, male and female, he created them. And God blessed them, and God

said to them, be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every

living thing that moves upon the earth. I want to talk about three things in this text, two of them very briefly and one of them

more extensively, and you can all see them.

I don't think it takes any great time on my part now to get these three truths

out of the text and so I have a special angle I want to come at them with. The three

truths of these. Number one, God created human beings.

God created you.

Number two, God created us in the image of God. Number three, God created us male and female in the image of God.

Now it's possible to believe all those truths

and not be a Christian.

And that's obvious because they stand right here in the Hebrew scriptures and therefore a good

Orthodox Jewish rabbi who believes his scriptures will say Amen to those three truths.

But even though it's possible to believe those three truths

and not be a Christian, I believe those three truths point to Christianity.

Each of those three truths beg for completion as we read them today, that completion comes in Christianity and that's what I want to talk about today.

The completion of these three truths, especially the third one in Christ and his redeeming work in creating a people for himself and an ultimate destiny of glory.
