I'm John Baxter with my good colleague Charles Ortel on the scene in Malaysia,

traveling widely in Malaysian, Indonesia, as Charles has emphasized, these are islands that share

a part of the world, but not the same in development.

Indonesia is well ahead with the large city of Jakarta and now a trade deal with the United States. Malaysia is a much smaller population. Charles tells me about a tenth of the size of

Indonesia. I'm keen on the people of both Malaysia and Indonesia. Charles, you've been traveling to what you'd have to say, paradise spots and big cities.

How are the Indonesians and Malaysians different if they are?

And what about greeting American investor class, which you represent?

How are they about that?

Well, I would say both countries are Muslim light.

You know, people talk about Muslim extremism and risk posed by that.

I'm sure there are pockets of that.

But wherever I go, people are very welcome,

not just Westerners, visitors of all cultures and faiths are welcome, provided you respect

the local population and treat them politely. You're embraced. I arrived in Malaysia three years ago, not knowing a single person.

And I have a full social calendar.

I have to turn things down.

People are very welcoming, very helpful.

I kind of feel like I've been transported back to the 1960s.

There are many nuclear growing families.

It's common to see families with three and four children in both Malaysia and Indonesia.

That's a sign that growth is possible, I think.

And people, I've done a, I bought an apartment and did a lot of renovation.
