because we're going to have to deal with tough times before we come back.

We're going to do this in four years. It's going to be

very bumpy, but we will do it. It's important, I think, that we make this change so that the

right balance can be struck between allowing people the freedom to protest, but balancing

that against the rights of the wider community to be able to go about their business, free from

intimidation and fear.

We're out on the road still, several weeks of party conferences and the Conservatives is the last of, I think it's five we've covered between us as a guardian team.

We are in Manchester and of course the city is still reeling from last week's attack on a synagogue.

And that makes stakes even higher in what's an already important week for Kemi Badernock.

Kieran, how much of that is dominating conversations?

And in general, how does this conference feel different from last year?

Well, in general, it feels very different from last year because, of course, this time last year,

we were in the middle of a full-blown leadership election. And to be honest, that gave the whole

conference a bit more energy, a bit more buzz. There were certainly more delegates around.

In terms of the Manchester attack, I think it is clearly something that has really affected the

city, and you hear people around talk about it. Kevin Bade not spent a long time talking about
