So I was at the gym the other day, in the zone, I was suffering a bit when I glanced up at the TV.

And there was my regular weather duo. He's the grumpy middle-aged guy with a permanently fired brow,

and she's the younger, very pregnant woman,

who seems to spend most of her on-air time nervously trying to keep him happy. Hashtag fawning.

It's awkward and it's performative as hell. Now, I don't know their backstory. Maybe off-camera

their best friends, but from what I can see,

he's probably got a mean streak, and she's fawning like her job depends on smoothing over

whatever tension is between them. It's this strange, low-level performance covered in a high-gloss

layer of fake smiles and scripted banter. But here's what really got to me. How incredibly

performative they both were. It's like they've got these personas hardwired in. They're playing

these roles. And it's not just them. It's all of them. Weathercasters, newscasters,

it's all fake. So look, I've been inside TV studios.

I've seen the switch flip when the camera goes live,

the transformation from regular human to corporate puppet, and I get it.

These corporations pay the bills, and they have their rules.

There's a tone you're supposed to hit, a brand voice. It's like

perpetually peppy or performative gravitas. But here's the thing. People are so done with it.

They're starved for authenticity. Even people who still tune in every day and not along to the

news, they're just tolerating it. But there's a large wave of people,

and I count myself amongst them, who look at polished nonsense and think, are you seriously
