Hope your day is going awesome.

I hope fall is treating you well.

Today we're going to talk about an element, an element that plants use.

0:10.0

As we all know, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, right? but there are quite a few different

0:15.2

elements besides those three that plants use when it comes to their growth and

0:20.2

one of them is magnesium now in hydroponics a lot of people will talk about

0:24.8

adding a cow mag supplement to the water. So people will do this often because

0:30.5

their their water, let's say they're using reverse osmosis water, which is effectively just pure H2O as far as its composition.

0:38.0

Not a lot of dissolve solids in it, and so then they'll realize that some of the hydroponic nutrient solutions that are commonly

0:44.0

sold don't offer a whole lot of magnesium or calcium and they'll have to supplement with a

0:48.3

cow mag which harder water actually would already have some of.

0:52.2

So they've kind of removed a problem, removed and additive to

water and then they have to re-ad it because the plant needs it. But in soil, you know, it's not like a plant

1:00.2

doesn't need it in soil as well. So let's go ahead and talk about first of all how

1:04.2

do plants actually use magnesium and of course I'm not a botanist but you know on my

1:09.0

cursory research and my experience growing plants this is what I know about it.

1:13.2

And if you have any extra tips, please let me know.

1:15.4

We're going to talk about how they use it, and then what a deficiency looks at looks like,

1:19.2

and then how to provide it for your plants if you do believe that they are deficient in

1:24.0

magnesium. So first of all, magnesium is the powerhouse behind the process of

photosynthesis in plants. Without magnesium, chlorophyll cannot capture sun energy needed for photosynthesis. So pretty important little
