Should we start with Mike Johnson and this continuing resolution?

And effectively, the Republicans, again, suggesting that they want to block funding to continue the government because Joe Biden's the president.

They don't want to give the impression that they're helping him in any way.

Just talk us through that, Ron.

There's a bigger story here.

And we have to sort of rewind here about where we're at.

This is all about Mike Johnson's failure of leadership.

If we rewind, the reason why they ousted Kevin McCarthy was because the Republicans

were upset that he was supposed to pass his own budget, a conservative Republican budget

that dramatically cut spending. And he couldn't do it. Couldn't get the votes, never brought it up

to a vote. So what he did was a continuing resolution,

which basically just says we are going to continue the budget of our predecessor, Nancy Pelosi.

We're just going to keep going with that. And because we can't pass our own. And they were

outraged and threw him out. So in comes Mike Johnson, who promises two things, no more continuing resolutions.

And not only that, we're not going to have a budget vote as an omnibus bill.

In other words, we're not going to put the entire budget in one bill.

We're going to pass it in nine separate appropriations bills.

So one just for defense spending, one for education, one for health care, et cetera.

Because this is what Republicans wanted. They wanted to be able to vote on pieces of the budget

rather than the budget as a whole. So in the meantime, Johnson has been trying to get these
